"Welcome to the Third Island of China" Chongming Dao by gaolei

This island in the Yangtse River near Shanghai is Chong Ming Dao (Island). When you arrive by ferry, there is a sign that says welcome to the third Island of China. When I asked Chinese friend to explain he said it is the third largest island of China. There is Hainan, Taiwan and Chongming. I disputed Taiwan as a Chinese island, but he was quite resolute in his belief that Taiwan belonged to China.

The island is only 15 miles from Shanghai, but they have a local dialect that the Shanghainese cannot understand.

I couldn't squeeze Chongming Dao into my travel plan when I was there in Dec 08. So sad! Wish you could add some photos of it.
