Just remember to 'UPLOAD THE PHOTO' once you've selected a pic! Remember the mantra is 'Browse, Open, Upload the photo.' 2. How Do I Add My Member Picture? You can also simply click the "Settings' link which is at the top of the page when you are logged in, and add your Member Picture from there. Your picture personalizes forum postings, email, and other features. People are much more inclined to rate tips, correspond with, and make friends when they can see who they're talking to. 3. Do I Have to Add a Member Picture? You are not required to add a member pic, but adding one makes it much more likely that people will contact you, rate your tips and make friends with you. It helps to personalize your pages and introduce yourself. 4. What Kind of Member Picture Should I Add? Since your member pic gets shown in smaller scale when you post in the forum or send email, a Member pictures that clearly shows your face is the best. 5. My Photo Turned Out a Wierd Color When I Uploaded It. Why? In order to efficiently save huge numbers of pictures (well over 2 million right now) on our servers, VT, saves images at no larger than 560 x 500 pixels. If you upload a huge 2 MB photo we will scale it down to manageable proportions and then save it efficiently. When a photo is reduced in size, the software must calculate colors a little differently. In about 99.9% of photos there is no problem, but in a few rare instances some pictures go crazy. They appear like color negatives from another planet. However, to fix it, all you have to is remove the photo, resize it to no larger than 560 x 500 and upload it again. You'll see that the photo will be returned to normal. You can resize a photo with any common photo viewer that you use to see an image. Usually the command to 'resize image' is under the 'image' menu item. 6. Why Is My Picture Off Center or Cut Off After I Upload It? VirtualTourist displays all pictures in full size and also in smaller thumbnail versions. In order to create a neat and tidy layout, some smaller versions of your pictures are scaled down and cropped to highlight the center of the image. This works very well in about 99% of the pictures on the site, but for a small number in which the subject of the picture is at the extreme edge, the center of the picture does not show the subject. If this is the case with your picture you have several options. 1. Leave the picture as is. In almost all cases, only the thumbnail version is cropped to the exclusion of the subject. When someone clicks on the thumbnail the whole picture will open and be visible. 2. Crop the picture yourself so that the subject is near the center of the image. Use any image viewer and use the 'image' 'crop' feature to put your subject closer to the center. 3. Choose another picture that works better in all versions. Generally speaking this will be a photo whose subject is in the center of the canvas. 7. What Size Picture Should I Upload? You should not upload pictures larger than 560 x 500 pixels. Pictures larger than this will lose quality dramatically when uploaded into our system. 8. What Kind Of Image File Can I Upload? You can upload gif, jpeg, or png files. 9. Are There Any Pictures That I Shouldn't Upload? Yes. Please do not upload any images that include the following: Nudity Copyrighted or licensed images Obscene gestures and lewd behavior 10. Can I Upload Animations? No. Animations are not supported. |
