 | Vancouver Blarney Stone, the Reviews | Tips 1 - 10 of 10 | | The Blarney Stone in Vancouver's scenic and historic Gast Town has two stories and a great live band that mixes in Irish (and other) folk songs with covers of rock music. They take request so don't be afraid to ask the band to play your favourite tune. While the band takes a break they play popular music. This place is a blast and it's best if you go with a big group of people so you can take over somewhere to sit. Line-ups usually start around 9:30 but can move really fast or really slow depending on the night so get there early and grab a seat! The crowd is usually pretty mixed but alot of college kids hit it up on saturdays. The dance floor is tiny and always jam packed on weekends so be prepared for some initamte rug-cutting. Cover is $8-10 CAD I think, pretty standard for Gas Town bars. The drinks are usually expensive ($5 CAD for a pint) but upstairs they have 2 for 1 shooters for $4.25 so that might be your best bet...although some of the sweeter ones taste pretty watered down. All and all I always have a great time here!
Smart Casual (I don't even know what that means). I wouldnt wear sandals or opened toed shoes if you plan on dancing and don't want to have your feet sqaushed on the dance floor. The Blarney stone is a lively night out. There is a house band that plays Irish music and there is also a DJ playing chart sounds. Make sure you get there before 10:00pm otherwise you could spend half your night lining up outside even though it is half empty inside?

My favourite nightclub in Vancouver is the Blarney Stone, located near Gastown. The Blarney Stone is an Irish dance club that spans two floors. When it's rockin, you'll see a live Irish Band on stage performing classic Celtic songs, and hear fellow patrons smacking their beer glasses on the tables in unison.
Pretty much anything, although most people dress up with nice jeans, and no-sneakers to come here. Leave a Comment Theme: Live Music |
This is a classic example of a UBC dorm resident's hang-out after exams. English beers on tap, heavy wooden tables and chairs, and Scots and Irishmen playing live music, to which 21 year old caucasians do their versions of Highland dancing. This is the only place in Vancouver I've been to at night where I not only felt obviously non-white, but also too old.
Typical university clothes, meaning torn up jeans, sandals, and a tank top for the girls and jeans and a rock band t-shirt for the guys. Not exactly what one expects of an Irish pub, but hey, people are willing to pay $7 to mingle among such folks. If you are interested in a traditional irish type pub this is the place to check out. Saturday nights they have a live irish band and a dance floor that people get out onto. Generally people just sit at one of the many big long tables with a few pitchers. Because it is in Gastown, this place is fairly expensive. Cover is about $7 and a pitcher of domestic beer is about $14.

I was a frequent flyer at the Blarney Stone (I guess if you call 5 times in a year frequent...so not so frequent). It was a great place for people that just want to go out and have mindless fun with a pint in your hand. The only beef I have with this place is the "security" staff, who are very inconsistent. One night we were blethered and danced on the table and our bench. That time the manager came over and thanked us for creating such a great atmosphere. The next time we wanted to do that we got tossed out on our tuffs and told to never come back, even when we were complying with their "request" to get down from the table. Oh well, if you want a good time, head to the Blarney Stone. Just don't expect to have TOO much fun:) Leave a Comment Theme: Live MusicPhone: (604) 687-4322Directions: Located between Water and Cordova on the east side of Carrall Street in Gastown. |
The Blarney Stone is one of my old haunts in Vancouver. This is a fantastic low-key place where it's ok to have a few pints, then a few more until you're quite obliterated and wondering how you're getting home. The line-ups do get pretty nutty on Friday and Saturday nights, so come early unless you don't mind waiting for a bit to get in.
Pretty casual. I don't think they'll let you in if you don't have a shirt on, or ripped clothing. Leave a Comment Theme: NightclubPhone: (604) 687-4322Directions: Located between Water and Cordova on the east side of Carrall Street in Gastown. |
