 | Singapore Orchard Road Reviews | Tips 1 - 10 of 16 | | Christmas is always a special time in Singapore. The City puts up a good show, and every building and every main street is decorated and brightly lit up, especially in November and December each year. When night falls, the shopping streets of Orchard Road and Scotts Road becomes a fairlyland that sparkles in a multitude of colours and designs that are a truly a sight to behold! Take a stroll to enjoy the lights and colours of Orchard Road. Why not stop for a cup of freshly brewed cafe latte at Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf (my personal favourite!), or for a slice of kampung-styled nostalgia, you could buy an ice-cream potong from the road-side vendor, or perhaps a bag full of freshly roasted chesnuts. You and your kids will surely love being out at night! This was a really fun place that I probably wouldn't have found left to my own devices but I was taken there by a local. I had a few doubts when we first got there as I wasn't sure if it was a gay bar. A lot of the staff and the lead singer in the band especially were extremely camp, the latter looking as if he had just left the set of Cabaret. The resident band are called Tania and are apparently very well known locally. It is an older crowd which suited me down to the ground and there were a lot of expats. The taped music they were playing when we arrived was right from my era and the live band that perform every night play similar music. The band get going at around 10:30pm. Unfortunately we had to leave early due to an early start the next morning and the place didn't really get going until around midnight. I would like to have stayed for a few more hours. Ah well, it just means I will have to go back there.
Casual. I got the impression anything goes. There were some pretty outrageously dressed people but no-one batted an eyelid. I dont like clubbing but this club is worth going. This show depicts some of the "huss huss" secrets of singapore :) Music, dance and jokes. And of cos, the brain of the show---Kumar. A comedian, unique in his own way.

Basically there are two major nightlife actitivies in there (1) Clubbing (2) Supper (1) Clubbing - As per my list at 'must-see activities', clubbing is one of the great hobby of young people in Singapore, most clubbers were either students or yuppies. Zouk - One of the renowned Club in Singapore for its music & people watching. It compromise of a winebar, zouk club, phuture & velvet underground 4 clubs under 1 venue. Check it out if you are into Trance/techno/drum & bass etc type of music. www.zoukclub.com There are many other clubbing area like Boat Quay (if you are into pub drinking with some live band music), Mohammed Sultan Road (if you are into bar-top dancing & various theme of music bar to select from), China Jump at CHIJMES (Live band & Top hits), Hilton Hotel (Live Jazz music), Emerald Hill area (for Jazz/live band). My personal favourite would be Alley Bar at Emerald Hill, there is a new club called Rouge (a fanciful club with lotsa talented local DJ spinning the night away), ice cold beer is round the corner too & you could catch a game of English Premier league with a huge tv screen from one of the alfresco pub. And much more choices located at other areas, will update again.
Beach wear would not be recommendable hiaks! Stay casual or dress up in your stylish top fashion & parade at Zouk club where lotsa wannabes will hang around. Leave a Comment Theme: Dancing |

My friend took me here after having dinner at Scotts Food Court. It was 7pm. We sauntered into China Black, sat at the bar and topped the cherry to our dinner with a few mugs of beer (draft). From 7-7:30pm - a mug will cost you only S$2.00 & and from 7:30-8pm the price increases to S$3. However on weekdays, their Happy Hour prices (30% off all drinks) are from 5-10pm. They also offer a small buffet spread of finger food for early birds who are hungry. I did not try the food, so...no comments. =) The interior of the club is average, with a fusion of the old Eastern furniture finishing with a tinge of Western look. Do not expect a super sleek, metal shiny look from this club. There are 2 floors in this club. The bottom floor has 2 bars. The one in the middle of the dance floor is as pictured on the left. The other bar is at the side. Besides the standard bar table & stools, they have lounge areas with sofas and coffee tables. Though I couldn't make it, they were holding a gig there for Suede (*woo hoooo) the week after. Pity, but I had to leave Singapore by then! This was way back in January, my previous trip here before this one in March. Their music ranges from Top 40s Contemporary Pop to Commercial House. On 'Retrolicious Thursdays’, DJ Jas spins the best hits from the 70s, 80s and 90s.

When you get to Europa Music Underground you'll have two choices. To enjoy the house techno beat or to walk into another doorway to where the live music is, where we were in this pic. There is also space for you here to show off your latest dance moves ; ) By the way, the mussels hotplate serving here is tasty too! I'd vote Kumar for Singapore at its best humor! Kumar is both a drag queen and a stand-up comedian. Catch his terribly funny observations of Singaporean behaviour and life in general. Though he really has the power to move audiences everywhere to hysterical laughter with nothing more than one deft flick of the wrist or a perfectly arched eyebrow. Gold Dust boasts professional dancers with flamboyant mardi gras-type costumes, and real women dancing alongside drag performers. Only patrons 25 years and above are allowed. Wanna see how our VT Meet went on here? Visit the "an extraordinary VT Meet in Gold Dust" travelogue! ; )

This place is an old favourite... The live band is called Jive Talking - they used to play here YEARS ago, and have recently returned, with a different line up. The music they play ranges from R&B, pop to classic rock. They play about 4 sets of 45 mins starting from 10:30pm. In between, a DJ spins music (anything from top 40s to retro to dance music). Service is good - they are constantly topping up the ice bucket (when you have a bottle). Crowd here is made up mainly of working professionals (local and expats) and tourists. Popular spot for birthday and hen night celebrations. This place closes at 3am, but if you're up for more partying, adjourn to the Living Room upstairs which closes at 6am. First drink charge of $20 on Friday and Saturday nights. On the side walks of orchard road, u may come across pimps inviting u into a pub or adult spot typically with loud music and most often than not ..these are pick up joints wherein girls of various ages make u spend on them for their drinks and usually are available for u to pick up. the entire operation is well orchestered and at the end of an hour u would end up lighter and wiser.
