I`ve been here a few times already & only for lunch. Their lunch set includes one of their dishes on their lunch menu, a choice of white rice or all you can eat bread/rolls, a choice of salad or soup (if you want both, its 200yen extra), & dessert. All for 1000yen!! I always choose a pasta but they have gratin, meat dishes, & pizza as well. My favorite pastas are eggplant & spinach with meat sauce, and octopus with fish eggs in a cream sauce. The rolls are delicious & they have a variety you can choose from: chocolate chip rolls, Japanese pumpkin, plain, buttered, swirled, cinnamon, etc. Lunch is from 11:30am-4pm. Dinner 5:30pm-11pm. Inside Hirome Market on the 2nd & 3rd floors is a food court. Hirome Market opened the end of April 2003 so it`s very new. There are many kinds of food to choose from: Japanese noodles (udon, soba, yakisoba...), Chinese (dumplings, ramen, veggie & meat dishes...), Indian (curry, nan, samosas..), Korean (bibimbap, Korean pancake, noodles...), & Japanese food (sushi, tempura, a la carte dishes...). There are about 20 or so places to choose from so this is a great place to go if everyone wants to eat something different. Alot of the restaurants have display models of the daily special & also pictures of some of the menu items. So if you can`t read Japanese, it`s ok. Nan Phu is another great okonomiyaki restaurant in Himeji. It is a chain restaurant & there are a few of them in Himeji. The best one that I`ve gone to is south of JR Himeji station, about a 20 -25 min walk. There is a new one that just opened up close to the north side of Himeji station (2 min walk). Good atmosphere with traditional style seating (you have to take off your shoes at the south location).
Modern okonomiyaki (with noodles) with squid, pork, & shrimp! It`s another 5 minutes or so walk. The north side one is across the street from Osho`s.

Come here for a light Italian lunch. Located off Miyuki Dori shopping street, this chain restaurant offers salad, pasta, & pizza with a Japanese-Italian taste. Their menu`s in Japanese but their lunch specials are in English as well.
Lunch specials are 980yen & include salad, garlic or butter toast, & coffee. Try the bacon & spinach cream sauce pasta. Or the eggplant bolognaise pasta. Ramen & gyoza is from China. Come to this shop to eat cheap but good ramen & gyoza. This is a seated counter ramen shop with only 12 seats. Take any free seat available. There are only a few items on the menu. An order of miso or shoyu (soy sauce) ramen & gyoza will cost you 490yen total! Shumai is also available. There are alot of okonomiyaki (like a thick pancake usually made with cabbage, egg, and pork) restaurants here but this one is by far the best!! The portion is good and the final product is not dry like some other okonomiyaki shops. Great service too!
I like the MODERN okonomiyaki w/ seafood (MODERN means with noodles added). SUSHIRO is a kaitensushi (revolving sushi bar) chain restaurant. The sushi goes around on a conveyor-like belt on separate plates. It's 100 yen per plate of sushi (usually 2 pieces of sushi on each plate) and you can also order udon noodles, miso soup, and chawamushi (steamed egg in a cup). You can sit at a counter or at a table. Help yourself to the green tea (the hot water comes out of the spout at the table) & the ginger (a palette cleanser between eating the various kinds of sushi). In the plastic bottles: one of them is soy sauce, the other a thick sauce for eel and anago. There is an intercom above the table where you can order noodles, soup, sushi (if you don`t see what you want), drinks, etc. When you are finished with your meal, push the bell button above your table and a hostess will come and count up your dishes and give you your bill. Pay at the cashier.
i almost never order noodles or soup. Sushi is enough to fill me up! I love the various kinds of salmon, anago, tuna, uni, kalbi (beef!) & ikura. Those who love to eat sushi in the US will be surprised at all the different kinds of sushi here at this restaurant!
