The American Dipper is the only diving song bird in North America. This one was demonstrating its dipping and diving moves at the fish ladder on the southeast side of Steigerwald Lake National Wildlife Refuge. Based on the rhythmic bouncing it must also be listening to some type of rock music on its headphones.
Dippers use their wings to "fly" under the surface of the water. This one demonstrated this in a somewhat visible fashion as it did this while standing on one of the steel beams that makes up the fish ladder at Steigerwald Lake National Wildlife Refuge.
