On a cold winter's day in January 2011, we watched two brave souls surfing on a wave in a river in Munich's Englischer Garten.
As they attempted to keep their balance, their friends were pelting them with snowballs from a bridge overlooking the river!
It was a very entertaining spectacle and we stopped to watch for quite some time. Each of the two surfers lost their balance and fell into the river on dozens of occasions, each time climbing back onto the banks of the river before jumping right back into the wave!
My girlfriend and I celebrated New Year's Eve 2010/11 in Munich.
From early evening, much of the city centre was transformed into a giant street party with fireworks galore!
We welcomed in the New Year in Marienplatz under a hail of fireworks; it felt like a war zone, a constant barrage of bright flashes and loud bangs. This wasn't an organised display; people had brought along their own fireworks and were setting them off in the streets and throwing them across the square. My girlfriend was hit on the thigh by a rocket and suffered bruising for months afterwards.
