At the highest point you can get to on the Ganden Kora are literally thousands of small pieces of payer with prayers written on them. As I reached the top a wind came up lifting them all around me. Amazing!
The highest salt water lake in the work at over 4700 metres above sea level is over 100 km north-west of Lhasa. Primitive tourist facilities, nomads and Tashi Dor monastery can be found near this holy lake.
It took over half a day to get here in a 4x4 Toyota Landcruiser (including two flat tires). When we arrived and asked where the washrooms were - the answer was "anywhere you like". Cooking was done on yak dung fired stoves.
We got to Samye Monastery in Tibet. As we entered the building we could hear chanting. When we entered the main prayer hall the monks were assembled, chanting and playing their instruments including long horns.
I shot some video is very poor light. The sounds and images were worth it!
Eight day journey over land in a Toyota Landcruiser. Crossed over the "Friendship Bridge" on the border between Nepal and TIbet, and continued through to Lhasa. Sweeping and at times stark scenery, lunar type landscapes, windblown Tibetans, solitary monasteries, isolated villages...Roof of the World.
Photographs of people and places in and around Lhasa from my May/June 2006 Tibetan trip.
The slide show includes The Dalai Lama's former home, The Potala Palace, The Barkhor area, The Jokhang, and several monasteries such as the Drepung, Ganden, and the Sera Monasteries. Local people and pilgrims are thought out this video.
I spend over a month in the Tibetan area during May/June 2006. This video is only of the Lhasa area. I plan to do more as I get time.
