We decided to explore the old centre of Woerden. There was a farmers market on that day. The beautiful old city museum used to be the town hall.

we wandered around the market which is centred around the townhall. This is a really beautiful building that dates from the 16th century.

after a cup of coffee we started our walk through the city at the market.

the waterbus is a fast ferry between Rotterdam and Dordrecht and it makes several stops on the way - bikes go for free on the ferry. From the first stop in Rotterdam you get lovely views of the Erasmus bridge. This time we opted to get on at Krimpen (parking for the car is easy and free there). The ferry was quite busy but it is a lovely easy way to get to Dordrecht and avoids hassle of finding parking in the city. The ferry stop in Dordrecht is about 15 minutes walk to the centre but it is a lovely walk through narrow old streets.

a few minutes walk from our home is the recreation park Hitland and the river Ijssel. We often go there for a walk in the weekend - we can often see storks on nests there in the spring. On the dike along the river is a lovely monument, it shows a man with the ruins of a boat. During the flood disaster on the 1st of February 1953 a boat was placed against the dike to help prevent it breaking. If this had happened a huge area almost as far as the coast would have flooded.

we walked across the plein and headed into the streets but the showers came and we had to shelter.

we took the tram for the coffee house to the Museumplein. We were going to have our photo taken by the I AMsterdam letters.... only they were no longer there. So we asked a policeman!
