The Penang Hill Trams are two trains pull by cable, the meeting point of the trams are at a short distance above the middle station, after the passing, each tram has to stop for a while, one at the middle station, one halt on the track, further uphill, the tram pass by an old tram and a tunnel before reaching the upper station.
One of the few left, its a unique and fading performing arts among the Chinese community. This talented art performance requires the skills in handling the puppets and singing according to the story lines. Different characters require different vocals. Each puppeteer is required to perform different characters at the same time. This puppet shows are no longer popular among the new generation. Only by chance can you get to see this show which is upon request of the deity in conjunction with their festival celebrations.
Hindu festival held in Penang every year. It has many Sadhus and pilgrims every year. They start off by going in to a trance and then being pierced in the skin and through the tongue then carry on to do about 12-15km pilgrimage to the temple. A fabulous experience...not to be missed!
Traditional Chinese lion dance performed especially during Chinese new year. This was taken at Penang or so called George Town in Malaysia. By the way, Penang has just been selected by NY Times reader as No.2 must-visit destination for 2009.
