Food!

by nighthawk - last update: Feb 27, 2003

Fresh potatoes, beans and beef ..
This is what my dad wants all the time, where ever on the globe he might be: potatoes, a decent piece of beef and veggies!
Haha, and you what the best part is? He can cook as good as any and he never minds us to have a meal with him!

These potatoes were the first of this year so scraped not rinded and of course with melted butter in stead of gravey!
Wentelteefje

Wentelteefje or sop in the pan (or French toast?)

Quite easy to prepare! Great if you forgot your breakfast for some time and find yourself with only days old bread.

In a bowl: 3 spoons of sugar, a teaspoon of cinnamon, an egg. Stir.
Add bout half a liter of milk, stir again.

Put a baking pan on the stove and heat a lill piece of butter, heat.
Meanwhile, soak a slice of bread in this (both sides), put in pan and bakes till the slice is slightly brown. Turn over to bake the other side.

After baking, put it on a plate and if wanted put some syrup, grinded sugar or anything else you like.
Enjoy!
Snert / green pea soup

Snert or green pea soup

Sorry only in Dutch for now.... :-)

Benodigd: Ingredients:

spliterwten: split peas
2 aardappelen in stukjes: 2 potatoes, cut in cubes
blokjes knolselderij: cubes of celeriac
wat wortel: a carrot, sliced thin
krabbetjes: some slices of rib, meat on it
mager spek: some bacon
wat varkensvlees: some pork
bonenkruid en andere kruiden erbij: spices like salt, pepper

Ikzelf vind t zonder rookworst lekkerder.

Na 2 uur spek fijnsnijden, krabbetjes schoonmaken en vlees in de pan terugdoen, varkensvlees ook in blokjes.
Dit is even uit mijn hoofd, eventuele correcties volgen maar t klopt aardig zo :-):

Put all the ingredients in a big cooking pan so that it all gets covered by the water. If you like, you can spice the meat with some salt and pepper then bake the meat shortly and add all to the soup when it cooks.
I prefer doing so for it just more yummy!

A package of 500 grams of split peas makes about 2 liters of soup.

Bring it all to boil and let it shimmer for about 2, 3 hours.
If foam appears remove it.

Almost half an hour before the ending of the time add a smoked saucage (when in the Netherlands: buy a HEMA saucage!)

When time for cooking is done, remove the meat and cut it all to decent cubes/slices, add to soup.
Add more spices if needed.

I do hope you can make soup of this! ;)

That is a great clog to start of this page! Don't mix your booze under "sports travel", now there is some great advice that I concur with, LOL :-) Especially during the holidays!

Super light hearted birds-eye view of the Netherland's. Very interesting tips. Now if I could just get my hands on those cakes..:-)!
