The Market Square is the centre of activity in Marrakech. I am glad that I arranged for us to stay close by in a small Riad in an alleyway behind the markets here.

On our first night one of the Staff suggested that we have dinner overlooking the Central Market Square here, we thought that would be a good idea....so he led us to La Boheme Restaurant.

Here, we sat on the rooftop garden Restaurant and enjoyed the view along with a magnificant dinner and a few local beers to wash it down.

And as the sun went down we sat in a prime spot overlooking Djamaa El Fna.

Then the sounds of evening prayers filled the air - video to come. It was a haunting sound that echoed through the whole Medina. We were in awe! This is when the realisation struck hubby and I ...... that we were finally here!...in Marrakech!! :o)

And as the sun went down....the lights came on and we looked forward to our first night here in this lovely exotic and enchanting City.

La Boheme Restaurant was expensive, even by Australian standards.....but you simply have to lash out and do it. ....more about that in my tip. But what I will say now is that it is worth it.....simply for the view. In my opinion, this is the best spot for taking photos of the Market Square.

And guess what? ..... It was almost a full moon....so that made my night shots even better! :o) I couln't believe it when I saw that huge moon rise behind the Square! WoW!! ...what a way to spend our first night in Africa!!!

And as night falls the Market stalls and Snake Charmers etc give way to the food vendors.

The whole Medina Market Square is taken up by food vendors and rising steam from the cooking that takes place is a common sight.

I zoomed in and grabbed a quick pic. I think I did a good job on the photo....don't you?..... :o) ....especially taken from far away on my stool in the rooftop garden of La Boheme Restaurant :o)

Early morning in Djamaa El Fna.

You wouldn't think it was the same place hey :o)

There's a few umbrellas and chairs out ready to start the day. The streets are amazingly clean and the Market Square looks bigger than it did the night before :o)

Orange Juice Stalls are trading early. Even though it is still quite a while before it warms up....these guys still had people buying fresh juice early.

The snake charmers were also setting up and hubby couldn't resist stopping for a photo..... and so we departed a couple of hundred dirhams less from our early morning walk through Djamaa El Fna ;o) .....More about that in my tip.
