Great Wall at Mutianyu

To see the Great Wall visit Mutianyu 95 km (59 miles) or a 2hour 30 minute drive north of Beijing. Tour buses from Beijing are plentiful. The Mutianyu section of the Wall is the longest fully-restored section open to tourists. It has been restored to its original glory. The Mutianyu section is less crowded and has better architecture than at Badaling. The wall, built with slabs of granite, is 22 km (14 miles) long, seven or eight meters high and four or five meters wide, crenellated on both sides and has 22 watchtowers. The paths and steps are well-paved and walking conditions are classed as easy but some sections are steep. There is the option to use a cable car to avoid the trek up to the wall. At the car park near the cable car there is a market for good quality handcrafts. There was even a Dromedary camel there on the day I visited.
