"Around the Main Church" Tübingen Travelogue by Russell_the_Wombat

Coming from the bridge, we entered the old town and found ourselves in a maze of small streets. But Mommy is good with maps and found her way. We were in the lower quarter not far from the main church.

Ah, there is the choir of the church at the end of the street.

The sun was already low on this November afternoon. Some of the narrow streets were already quite dark at the bottom.

The church is too big to fit into a photo from nearby. It is surrounded by a rather small square and pretty old houses. Most of these here have been restored.

They were built in half-timbered technique. Often the beams are hidden behind plaster, though. I am sure that the one on the left has beautiful timberframe underneath its yellowish coat. But a simple layer of plaster is easier and cheaper to maintain.

Swabian skintness is proverbial, and it shows in the back streets. Crumpling brownish plaster covers many facades. A thorough renovation would make the houses look prettier. We could not help but notice that Marburg, where the timberframe of most houses is uncovered and well restored, looks much nicer.
