"Zhangjiajie-Hunan & Li River Country" Personal Page by GypsyNanfandango
Visited here for the second time to get a view of these misty mountains that resemble chimney spires with outcroppings of evergreens. This park needs at least three to four days to explore it with the surrounding villages and minority peoples, waterfalls, subterranean caves with boat rides, flora and fauna. Transportation is via public bus, bike or hiking.
The Li River area in China is one of the most enchantingly beautiful spots in the world with its limestone karst mountains and a ride by raft is by far the most serene and pleasant way to explore this river from Guilin to Xingping or Yangshuo as you feel the breeze upon you to keep you cool during the warmer months of the year.
Our eight-seat raft was very roomy with just two of us on it (not shown in this photo) and we were hardly aware of our "driver," who putt-putted us down river with a quiet little motor and a paddle...So having this river all to ourselves really made it a special treat. The larger boats from Guilin made their presence later in the morning and so we were very thankful we chose to go by raft rather than the usual touristy kind of cruise with so many people. And we had the best view.
Moon Hill looks exactly like part of a moon and is located a couple miles out of the town of Yangshuo. You can zoom in on this hill with your camera or hike up to it if you wish. For $20 for the entire day, our taxi driver, friend of our Yangshuo Culture House host, drove us around and stopped where we wanted him to as well as waited for us while we took a boat ride in the famous caverns nearby for a hike and for a soak in the hot mineral water.
