Houses in Johannisgasse...

... and a look back to the market square through the narrow passage, with Hotel Wilder Mann in the background.

I walked from market square along Johannisgasse and Buchholzer Straße, more or less parallel to the slope. This first part was an easy walk with a gentle but steady descent.

Outside the old town the street splits up to two different levels.

The houses along here mostly date from the 19th century. Many of them are in need of renovation.

This house has been occupied by some kind of art project. ABove the door there is an old movie camera, and the advertisement in the window is for an independent film festival.

Annaberg's theater, named after Eduard von Winterstein, at the outer end of Buchholzer Straße.

From here a bridge crosses the valley to the ridge between Annaberg and Buchholz.

On this ridge, sort of neutral ground between the two parts of the town, they have placed the administration of the district.

The ridge has a bit of interesting architecture from around 1900/1920, like the AOK building...

... and the big art nouveau house on the corner. The dome is a landmark in townscape. The house's state is a shame, though. The shops and apartments are empty, although the windows of the upper floors look new.

From this hill another bridge leads across the next valley and Bahnhofstraße to the edge of Buchholz.
