Miner figures in parade uniform as candle holders were and still are popular. These folcloristic ones look a bit funny...

The Turk as smoker or candle holder is also traditional but has more or less disappeared from the assortments nowadays.

Nutcrackers in colourful soldiers' uniforms

The Little Rider from Olbernhau, also a parody on soldiers.

These two, however, are neither funny nor folcloristic. They probably represent the daily life of people in the Ore Mountains much better than miners in parade uniform. The two old people shlep a heavy load of firewood on their backs.
I found them very moving.

Back to funnier things. Because custom for exports was to be paid by weight, some toy makers turned to creating miniature toys that fit into a matchbox.
