This is almost a philosophical topic... The maker of wooden toys makes a toy that depicts a maker of wooden toys... The one above is busy painting a Santa Claus. On the left, there is a workshop with two men working at lathes.

These animals have also been made on a lathe, but not from a dowel, the common technique, but from a wooden ring which is then cut into segments, each slice makes an animal. Reifendrehen is a technique that was invented in the Ore Mountains.

Sanded and painted, assortments of different figures were then packed into nets and sold on the markets and in toy shops.

Figures were also made from Masse, i.e. a compound that was cast in moulds.
