Sydney - Melbourne (Southern Aurora

The Southern Aurora operated between the cities of Melbourne, Victoria, and Sydney, New South Wales, in Australia. First-class throughout, including the dining facilities, the Southern Aurora featured all-sleeper accommodation

We had two person twinette cabins which were more than acceptable but the highlight on the journey was the food provided in the two dinning cars. Both dinner and breakfast the next day were excellent.

Leaving Melbourne in the evening, the train traveled through the night arriving in downtown Sydney at around 09.00. After having a good nights sleep and a hearty breakfast, I felt more than set to face the day after this journey

NamTok to Kanchanburi

Only a 2 hour ride which on the wooden benches in each car was about enough.

The highlight however was the trestle viaduct at Ban Wang Po some 8 Km south of Nam Tok which was build during 1943 by allied POW's under the most difficult of conditions of massive malnutrition and cruelty by the Japanese
