Arriving-First Night

On arriving at Copenhagen Airport(Kastel Airport)my partner and me got a taxi to the city, the journey took about twenty five mins and the cost to our hotel was 270 DK.We had booked 3 nights in the Selandia hotel in the 'Vesterbro'district of the city just a few mins walk from the centre. The hotel made us feel very welcome and it was a pleasure to stay here.
After a quick freshen up we decided to go and explore, and after a few mins walk found ourselves in the hustle and bustle of the busy city centre. Our first stop was a beer in the 'Hard Rock Cafe'then a walk through the main square of 'Radhus Pladsen'were the City Hall and the Palace hotel are, then a walk up the main shopping street of in the 'Stroget'.

First Night-cont.

After browsing round some of the shops we headed for 'Charlottenborg'Square which has nice gardens and a huge monument in the middle. The square is surrounded by various Goverment buildings and avenues in all directions. On to the Nyhavn district which was once popular with Danish sailors on shore leave with the Habour not far away, here is the main Canal of the city with either side of the street littered with restaurants and bars. There are lots of boats moored here some old and some modern. After our walk we decided to go for another drink at the 'cafe Norden'then had dinner at the 'Luberaeseren'reataurant in 'Stroget'.After this we went back to the hotel for a good nights sleep.

As we only had three days here we decided that we should see as much as possible so up early today to get a good start.Breakfast in the hotel then off we went camera and map ready. We started where we left the previous night in the 'Nyhavn'district and walked towards the harbour for great views of the Play House and the new Opera house across the water. We continued up towards the 'Little Mermaid'then on to the 'Kastellet Fortress'.After this it was on to 'Amalienborg Slotpads'to see the Royal Palace and the guards then off to 'Rosenborg Castle'to see the Crown Treasury and Museum.

We stopped for lunch in one of the outside cafe's about one to catch our breath and re-fuel before visting a few churches most notably the'Frederiks 'Church whose dome is modelled on St.Peters in Rome and The 'Trinitatis'church in the old town, both churches are very beautiful and popular with tourists.'Christianborgs'palace was our next stop with its magnificent courtyard and fountain and were the royal horses have there training with carriages. It was late afternoon now so we headed back to the hotel to freshen up and get changed before heading back out at six.We walked up to the 'Norreport'district and found a friendly bar where we chated to locals and had drinks till eleven.

Our 2nd full day here.We decided to go to the Zoo and the Carlsberg Brewery museum.both are situated in the 'Frederiksberg'district of the city about twenty to thirty mins walk west of the city.It was a beautiful sunny morning so we decided to walk through Vesterbro and into 'Frederiksberg'.We got to the Zoo just as it was opening at ten and spent just over two hours here. Its a modern Zoo with good selection of Animals from Scandinavia,Africa and Asia. After the Zoo we crossed over into 'Sondermarken'park and onto the Carlsberg Museum about ten mins walk away. The museum is very interesting with lots of history and a great bar to quench your thirst at the end.

Sunday cont.

We walked back into the centre after the Carlsberg Museum and visited the statue of 'Hans Christian Anderson'near the city hall and finally had our picture taken with the statue after waiting for a bus load of Japenese tourists to take there photos which was quite amusing. It was lunch time again and a hot dog for me and a club sandwich for Sue with beers of course and then some more exploring by the canal and more pictures taken.Walking through the streets we noticed a lot of street mimes in there gold outfits posing for the tourists ,they made great photos for a few Krone. The day was finished with more beers and food, unfortunately the weather had gotten worse and the rain swept in quite heavily this night.

Monday-Last day

It was still raining on our last day here but it didnt put us off exploring. We wanted to go the Botanical gardens today but the tourist information said it was closed on mondays like many of the museums. So we headed to the 'Rundetaarn'Round tower in the old town to catch a spectacular view of the city. After this we had a Coffee and Danish Pastry in one of the many bakeries then did some shopping. One last drink in the Hard Rock Cafe and a purchased t-shirt then back to the hotel to check out.We bought lunch at one of the seven-eleven stores before getting a taxi to the airport, our adventure in Copenhagen had come to an end.We had a wonderful time in this wonderful city and are sure to return again.
