The town's fortifications stretch from the castle in the northwestern corner of the old town in southern direction offering views of the Ohre (Eger) river valley.

A little square in the western part of the old town. Many townhouses are preserved but - facades aside - not in good shape. A nuisance for pedestrians are the many cars in the old town.

Recently painted facades (with odd colours), but the townhouses would really need a thorough restoration.

The Gothic choir of the Franciscan monastery's church seen from Frantiskanske namesti.

Former St. Clara church: Vis a vis of the Franciscan monastery's church at Frantiskanske namesti is this church, said to be one of the outstanding examples of Baroque architecture in the Czech Republic. Architect was probably (no documents) Christoph Dientzenhofer, the church was built 1704 - 11. Nowadays it is a gallery (sculptures and pictures) and concert hall. Unfortunately it was closed when I visited.
