During my winterly visit the castle was closed so I tool the chance this time for a guided tour through the thick walls. Here some impressions of this interesting place.

Above you see king St. Olav who is name giver for the castle.

A model in one of the rooms show the defense structures of the castle.

This is the chapel inside. Interesting is that there is a hole in one of the walls towards a neighboring room. The story behind is that in the past criminals, ill and (!) pregnat women were not allowed to be insidet he church / chapel. So a hole like this gave them a chance to take part in the service by peeking in. Wonder what the person who set up this rule thought when made pregnat women sitting beside very ill people...

On the walls inside the chapel you can still see some paintings.

You will need to get up several stairs on the guided tour, which will even lead you on top of one of the towers. This photo was taken when walking along the top of a high defense wall.

This is the toilet, one of the first of this kind in Northern Europe I read somewhere...

Looking down into the main hall.

The toilet again, this time from the other side. All the group had a smile on the face...
