Eggs arrived in HKG at 825PM via CEB on 21Sept11. Our first trip together and we can't stop laughing and joking about the moc mocs! After going through the usual touristy stuff like immigration and baggage claim, we boarded the Airport Express in HKG Intl Airport terminal 1 which will take us to Hongkong Station where we will board the MRT to TST to YMCA Hotel in Kowloon side. We booked our Airport Express Pass with 3 days unlimited travel on the MTR, Light rail and bus. A HKD300 value we got for HKD270 just by buying it online and using HSBC CC! Definitely a steal!
We checked in at our hotel and after a few minutes of rest we checked out the Harbour City mall and had a late dinner at Spaghetti House near the Star Ferry Pier. Pizza was very good but we realised later on that at HKD100 each, it was a very costly dinner! Then we checked out the night markets in Fa Yuen St. Sadly, the shops are already closing and the stores in the market are clearing up their wares as it was already past 11. We then decided to go to the Harbour front where we saw a few joggers and tourists strolling at this odd hour. Highlights of the night are (1) seeing this Barca billboard at a Nike store near Ladies market and (2) residents who can speak a few Filipino.
Early call time for the EGGS as we take on day 2 of our HKG escapade. Ngong Ping cable car, Golden Buddha and Disneyland are on our itinerary and we just can't wait to get started! By 9am we were already surveying the Citygate Outlets Mall but since we are early, the shops are still closed so we decided to have our breakfast at McDo. Next stop is Golden Buddha in Ngong Ping which we will reach via the 25-min cable car across the mountains of Lantau Island. Haha brave eggs were already turning into Jell-O by the time we lined up for this ride! But decided to go on with it anyway. The round trip crystal cabin cable car ride costs HKD150 each and is definitely worth each penny! We took our seats and by the time the ride is on its 4th dip, eggs P and T are already enjoying it, standing up to take great pics of the breath-taking view of the airport strip and the water beneath. Haha but not me! Glued to my seat, I was looking at the skies most of the time containing my heart's pounding! The 25-min ride almost felt like forever (yeah, what a cliche) with the lowest dips accompanied by our giggles and posing for the camera for distraction. Finally we reach Ngong Ping Village as the Golden Buddha is already visible from the cable car.
It was my second time to see the Golden Buddha in Lantau. Last 2008, we took the bus as the cable cars at the time are still under construction. It was a very difficult 2 hour ride each way. This time, we didn't go all the way up the flights of stairs and just enjoyed the cool weather.
By midday we were ready to go to Disneyland and of course we have to finish our ride back to Tung Chung MRT via the cable car - AGAIN! 25 more minutes of dips, lows and highs! The ride back felt more comfy though I was still glued to my seats while eggs P and T took turns sitting on the see-through floor of our cabin! There were only the 3 of us inside the crystal cabin unlike the first ride when we shared the cabin with 4 other persons.
Being greeted by "Part of Your World" is always a pleasant experience in Disneyland! Feels like a child again being addicted to the works of Walt Disney. After picking up some good pasalubong stuff at the Disney stores, we watched the parade of Disney characters along Main St. A quick late lunch at the diner and we felt like out toes are separating by themselves!!! But of course we went on and on! Eggs P and T even boarded the Space Mountain while I waited outside. The Golden Mickeys has always been a favorite show of mine in Disneyland cos it never fails to entertain. This year, they gave tribute to Friendships where Disney characters Mulan, Tarzan, the Hunchback, Beauty and the Beast and Ariel were shown. Disney's theme was already Halloween and it will be my second time to watch their parade. Always a feast to the eyes! Jack from Nightmare Before Christmas - one of my fave Disney movies - was again the first float to come by! Tired but happy! Always the feeling after visiting HK Disneyland!
Instead of ferrying to Macau and spend half day there we decided to make it an easy day for our very very tired feet and just go around the nearby outlets and go back to the night markets for last minute shopping. First stop are the shops found just at the back of our hotel. Giordano, Bossini and Esprit outlet shops abound. For lunch, we finally had a decent fill from Cafe de Coral for just under HKD30 their roast set is not for the light eater! Even their iced lemon tea is authentic..what can you expect!
Next stop is the Harbour Front City Mall where it was easy and acceptable to get lost! Sasa shops never fail to amaze me with their super low prices on perfumes and cosmetics! By this time we are still unlucky to buy our Barca or Spain NT jerseys so off to the night markets we go again. We thought we had a real chance of buying our Spain NT jerseys but the sizes don't fit and the jersey numbers were printed poorly. Barca jerseys abound in the Nike stores lined up near Fa Yuen St but we were doubtful of their authenticity and just decided to buy online. After buying all our pasalubongs, we decided to get sandwiches from nearby McDo and head back to the hotel to pack and rest for an early flight back to the real world the next day.
We have an early flight out to Manila and by 530AM we have checked out of our lovely hotel and bound for the MTR station. We were even early as the TST station opens at 6AM. We definitely had a nice experience in Hong Kong with the cool weather, cheap finds and tasty food we promise to be back.
