The best overview is from the roof of the opera house...

This beautiful square was not far from our hotel. There is the opera house, a church (closed because it was Monday), a museum (closed because it was Monday) and an upscale hotel (not ours, obviously).

The square, and especially these stairs, are popular with skateboarders, so pay attention what is happening around you.

Another viewpoint is from the wall by the main road, which is a few metres higher than the level of the square.

You are now looking in the opposite direction from the corner between museum and opera house. That is the hotel behind me. And wow, what a blue sky.

The back side of the opera house and the church again.

This is the street where we stayed. It is pedestrianized and has 19th century hosues and many shops and pubs, but half the shops and most of the houses are empty. It looks run down and deserted, which is a shame because this could be a beautiful shopping and pub mile. There are big projects to reanimate this street and works in some houses have already begun.

Further in town I met a herd of penguins. These guys chose a pub in a livelier area as their destination. The penguins are going to Brazil!

The Red Tower is the only bit that remained of the medieval fortifications. All alone, it cannot protect the city from the invasion of modern shopping temples.

The basin in front of it has dancing fountains that change their shape all the time.
