Finally some trees! They advertise this as a forest. Hmmm...

Where are the leaves and why are the trees growing inside a big building?

**Scratches behind ear**

Anyway, it is wood and wood is for chewing...

But what a surprise. Ouch, my teeth! This wood is as solid as a rock.

Something is weird here.

I learned that this is the so-called petrified forest. The tree trunks are indeed stone. About 290 million years ago, long before there were wombats on Earth, a volcano erupted and a whole forest drowned in ashes and lava.

The trees petrified under heat and pressure and were preserved forever. There are lots more of them under a certain suburb of Chemnitz and when people dig in their gardens they sometimes unearth one. I would like to try digging there!
