Venetian Gondolas

Prior to visiting Venice for the first time in October 2010, the first things that sprung to my mind when thinking of the city were canals...and gondolas!

Despite reading that many people find them to be touristy and overpriced, there was still no doubt in my mind that taking a gondola ride through Venice was the one thing that I really had to experience during our visit.

You'll have no trouble finding a gondola and a willing gondolier to transport you through Venice's canals and waterways. You might have more trouble haggling over an acceptable price! We eventually settled on 80 Euros which, for 6 people for an hour's ride, I didn't think was too bad value.

I'd definitely recommend taking a gondola ride while in Venice. It is a fascinating way to see parts of the city that you wouldn't otherwise experience. Although more expensive than a ticket for a vaparetto or a waterbus, a ride in a gondola is also a lot more intimate and a lot more fun!
