Sheffield Christmas Market and decorations - 2010

2010's Sheffield Christmas Market was bigger than ever before.

Centred around the Peace Gardens in the city centre, it featured dozens of stalls selling christmas decorations, winter clothing, gifts, sweets and food.

There were stalls selling hot chocolate and roast chestnuts and a wooden "Alpine Bar" serving mulled wine and beers.

For the first time, the market featured an outdoor ice rink.

The market opened in late November 2010 and was soon engulfed in snow following heavy snowfalls in the city. This added enormously to the Christmas market feel.

The rest of the city centre was also decorated with Christmas trees and festive lights, with the main tree standing outside the Town Hall and a large tree shaped "Santa's Grotto" at the top of Fargate.

Tudor Square featured a more modern tree produced from spheres of bright white lights, while the trees on The Moor was decorated with blue fairy lights.
