"In the Met...." New York City Travelogue by leics

Much too much in this magnificent museum to see in one go, of course. I concentrated on the Ancient Egyptian galleries, but also took in a little f the other ancient galleries....and, without intending to, some of the American galleries too, because the only cafe which was open was in there!

These are some of my highlights...

Ancient Egyptian decorative wall-painting.

Ancient Egyptian horse...a whip-handle, beautifully carved and only around 6 inches long. About 3500 years old.

Greek vase...around 2400 years old. I do wonder if this was actually regarded as kitchy tat at the time!

Wonderful Roman wall-painting...the Met has a whole Roman bedroom on show. Around 2050 years old.

Life-sized bronze Eros, fast asleep. Greek, about 2300 years old.

She could be a Victorian bust...I've seen so many similar...but she isn't. she's a Roman copy of an earlier Greek statue, and is about 1900 years old.
