"Euromeet 2011 - Sunday Night At The Duck Cafe" Ohrid Travelogue by johngayton

A few late beers and an excellent jam session.

Having enjoyed an excellent dinner at the Belvedere restaurant the hard-core drinkers amongst us (i.e. just about everybody) went off in search of a late drink.

Serendipity had it that the first bar we encountered whilst heading towards the old town was still open (and licensed until 2 am) and so in we trooped.

The waitress seemed pleased to see us as she efficiently began rearranging the terrace to make room and the beers were soon flowing.

As minor digression I should just mention that this was my favourite waitress in all Macedonia - fast, friendly and fun. I did ask her to marry me but I think she thought I was joking as she laughlingly rejected me - HA! I was broken-hearted, having thought I'd finally discovered the ideal woman ;)

But anyway back to the bar.

Several beers were enjoyed, the conversation flowing as liberally as the drinks, but with several of the company booked on the Western Macedonia tour the following day we were down to only the hardest of hardcore drinkers by 2 am.

The hardcore consisted of Fergy (planxty from London, via Northern Ireland) and Taylor (tayloretc currently resident in Bitola via Okinawa, the US and Europe) with myself as the official photographer (and of course being the photographer I was the one having to stay sober - HA!).

In one of the upstairs rooms of the cafe there was a stage set up for the cafe's weekend band, and a guy playing bass, strumming almost silently without being plugged in.

This turned out to be the cafe owner and Fergy, being a musician himself, got chatting.

A guitar miraculously appeared and next thing myself and Taylor were treated to an impromptu jam session.

The music (mostly 60's/70's rock) was great as the guys melded perfectly. My favourite waitress kept the drinks coming, whilst still refusing my marriage proposals.

Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here"

Then a change of instruments as Fergy plays bass.

NOTE - I've had to fuzzify the pic as Fergy claims he can't play bass and doesn't want anyone to see that he can LOL ;)

Then back to normal.

As we pass 3 am and the guys play out their encores.

Great night!
