A grey, wet and chilly day for a long exploration........but it was worthwhile.

I loved the variety of wooden houses I saw in this residential district of Kaunas.....some broken-backed and clearly 'dying', others smart and well-kept-up. Some tiny one-level bungalows, some huge two (even three) storied.

I noticed that most had good modern double-glazed windows, even if the roofline was wobbly and the woodwork not well-kept. I suspect keeping draughts out is very important in a Lithuanian winter.

.....two small mustard-coloured ones......

.....a three-storied one, almost like a pagoda........

.....a bit longer, but still mustard-coloured........

......more than one was 'dying', like this one is........

..........here's how to modernise a wooden house, by cladding it with brick.........

....blue, and a bit wobbly, but well kept.........

........and a very large mustard-coloured one (with shed) to finish. :-)
