Well by special post suddenly Barney is here sent all the way form H.Q. by staff member DanielDiNicola (DiNo). Barney is actually in B...We are really on the map.

Barney now has a brand new collar of Australian flags and the dearest little tag engraved 'Barney' and an Australian Flag Badge as he is now Aussie Barney and has a Home Page of his own.

Here is what DiNo told me:
Just a reminder, the Barney that you have is to be passed onto
another member who can take him to a meet up. The idea is to keep him
moving along and keep him appearing in photos with different members all
over the world. Apparently, the few that we have in the box are in case
something happens to the stuffed fella' on the road, or in case he needs to appear in 2 places at once.

Many of you have seen Barney poking his face around the site here and there. In fact, each time a new member joins, Barney holds their place while they browse for their favorite default avatar. But that's not all our cute and cuddly mascot can do - Barney the stuffed sheep has packed his bags and headed for Australia to join the Alice Springs Member MeetUp. You can meet Aussie Barney there too--just RSVP for the Meet! If you would like to become a Shepherd at your next MeetUp, make a request to Barney@VirtualTourist.com and send us a link to the MeetUp that you've organized. If you're a heavy traveler with the members of VirtualTourist, just keep your eyes open all around the world and you'll meet AussieBarney, EuroBarney, Asian Barney, and many other loveable friends, bringing the continents together!

Here at VirtualTourist, we love hearing from our members. Whether you email us, write to us, or post in the forums, we are always listening to your ideas and thoughts about the site, so don't be shy! We want to hear from you!



Sooooo that means this is your one and only chance to do something with
Barney that is completely unique! Your group can decide what that is, but
one thing we suggest is to add an article to him...whether that's a jacket, or
a suitcase, or something cute. Then the next group will add something. Feel
free to get as creative as you want! But just remember to keep it in the spirit of VT :)

Then once you pass him onto the next member, let me know where he's
going, who he's going with, and what you've added to him and we'll keep
track of his vacations :) Now that I'm thinking about it, it would be nice to
have him back to Manhattan for the Barney Awards in January to see how he's changed!

Barney...the original

Barney belonged to Kiwi Pam and he became the VT Mascot.

For a while he was used as the photo for members who did not upload one of their own. See him in his 'cool' VT hat.

1. What's With the Sheep?
The sheep photo, used when someone hasn't uploaded their own profile photo yet is in honor of Barney the Sheep - the pet of one of our members in New Zealand. Barney was the first animal to proudly wear our new VT caps back in 2002 and was a main stay on the circuit of VT visitors to New Zealand. Sadly Barney passed away a couple of years ago, so we offer tribute to the mighty Barney!

Oh there was a complaint. AussieBarney thought it was very unkind of me to wear sheepskin boots...ugh!

New additions

This is to introduce some recent additions to our family:

The small cattle dog Mitzie jnr after my much loved cattle dog;

Irwin the green crocodile from Darwin;

Violet the emu...my Mother was Violet.

We have a basket full of other family members.

And now there is LolaLamb on the horizen.

AussieBarney kisses a kangaroo.

"baa...baa....he did not want to eat me...he wanted to kiss me...I am in love" said AussieBarney when we visited the Daintree..

But something has just changed....in love with a kangaroo? Wait till he meets LolaLamb...might see some real kissing then. See AussieBarney's HP page album...'Ain't She Sweet'.
