"Wroclaw highlights" Wroclaw Travelogue by TarjaH

I was little scared when I came to Poland. I didn’t know much about a city or how the people are. I wanted to come and learn it. And I really was proved that it was pointless to be scared.

My co-workers were great and they took me to the amazing places, places that I wouldn’t have seen or even been able to find as a tourist. And even if I’m now changed my job I think that some of the connections will remain.

But my opinions of Polish people are not only based on my co-workers. If I had trouble I usually got help and in many cases without asking.

Of course also in Wroclaw there are many different types of people but I guess I was lucky to meet open and very friendly ones.

They say that people make the place and I think I love Wroclaw!

It takes time to forget.
I know it; people living in Wroclaw know it.
When our past in Finland is about bitterness of lost youth of our grandfathers, Wroclaw and people who lived there has even more reason for that bitter.

The history, that could still be repeatedly heard and seen in Wroclaw, concerned destruction of WWII. It’s obvious that it's not easy to be in the middle of the continent between two powerful nations.

Wroclaw, called Breslau by Germans that time, was considered as crucial defense point of the Nazis at the end of the war in 1945. That was the main reason why battles between the Nazis and the Red Army destroyed major part (70%)of the city and it’s estimated that almost half of the citizen was died while defending the city with German or trying to move to safe.

Even if the city was almost destroyed into ground, I’m very happy that it was rebuilt to the way it was before the wars, to the beauty that I couldn’t stop admiring.

Wroclaw’s history is colorful and besides the tragic happenings of WWII its history has many interesting details.
