The Driest Desert in the World!!! (Atacama Desert)

by LaurenAnita - last update: Jun 27, 2009

How I sprained my ankle

Valle de la Luna
If you decide to travel to the wonderful abyss that is the Northern part of Chile, I would suggest packing some good hiking shoes. I did not pack good hiking shoes, and I ended up spraining my ankle, but that didn't stop me from seeing the beauty of the Atacama desert!!!!!
Geysers of Tatio

Geysers!!!!!!

To go see the amazing geysers located in the northern region of Chile, one has to wake up very early. Actually you have to wake up at 5am, to see them in all their glory! It is a beautiful site, something not to be missed! I encourage you all to go see them, if you ever find yourself in the northern of region of Chile.
Look! People bathing behind me!

People Bathing

Can you believe that people bathe in the geothermal waters located in the northern region of Chile?! I was shocked, I could not believe that people were bathing behind me while I was in this photo. It was mind boggling! If you decide to go on the Geyser of Tatio tour, there is an option to go bathing in the geothermal waters, but that is at your own risk.
Salt! Behold its magic!

Salt!!!!!

Another beauty in the desert of Chile! Most people would think that what this picture depicts would be snow! But! My friends, it isn't snow! It is in fact salt! You can literally pick up the white fluff, and taste it if you want! It is salt, and not snow! Fascinating! Something to see, because it is pretty!

PS This is where I ended up spraining my ankle.
Entrance to Valle de la Muerte

Valle de la Muerte

This was actually my favorite valle to visit, besides the Valle de la Luna which was also very beautiful! Speaking of the Valle de la Luna I have another picture that I will be adding because it is so pretty! Now, back to this photo. Enjoy the serene envirnoment of the desert!
Valle de la Luna, (view from on top of dune)

Valle de la Luna!

This is the view from when you climb up the dune, it is an incredible view! I would encourage anyone to go and see it! NOW!
Valle de la Luna

More of Valle de Luna!

Here is another picture of the Valle de la Luna, before you reach the sand dune. It is pretty!
Houses of Tulor

Tulor!!!!

It is a place located once again in the northern region of Chile, it is the remains of a village. A very nice place, the skies are so clear! The clearest skies in the world!
