Ikebana - the Japanese Art of Flower Arranging

Thistle and Roses
I was introduced to Ikebana 20 years ago when we lived in Okinawa, Japan. I saw my landlady's arrangement of one single flower and a couple of stems of greens in a tall vase sitting on a low platform on her tatami floor. I was so intrigued on how a very simple arrangement can look so beautiful and stunning. I stood in awe and admiration to which my landlady took notice. She tried to help me find an instructor who could give me lessons. However, she didn't find one that spoke english.

Later, I found Sensie Keiko Robinson and took lessons from her. Since then, I have joined different Ikebana clubs in places we'd lived, mainly the Ikebana International, which has chapters all over the world. Unfortunately, where we are at the moment does not allow me to be a member of the nearest chapter which is in Frankfurt. I signed up during our first year but since I started working it became impossible for me to attend the weekday meetings. Regardless, I still practice the art.

Ikebana follows the laws of nature. In a way, it is bringing nature indoors.

Tnx for dropping by. You should come back & explore RP. I myself is overwhelmed everytime I go around. Ganda nga pala talaga Pinas! =) The 1st thing I read on your HP was about the cute baby pictured above. Sad naman po, wala na pala sya. =(

Sylvia, glad you liked the jumping galleries! Would love to include you in it --- even if you have a pic with both feet on grounds but ARMS UP IN THE AIR is okay for the galleries...Thanks, Norman :)
