The Silvereyes' New Home Inspection

by Kakapo2 - last update: May 13, 2009

Last year (2008) I bought an additional bird feeder which I thought would be especially nice for the silvereyes (also called: wayeyes). They always have to compete with the aggressive starlings for food, so I thought, an additional feeder would solve the problem. Well, this is not really the case, as the starlings also got used to it.

To get the birds into the feeder, I first put some food (cooked rice with apples, fat, sugar and oats) around the house, and then into the house. Soon the birds had accepted it. They wander into the house, and the starlings would follow suit after a while. To keep the starlings away, I hammered nails around the house, then wrapped wire around the nails. Still the starlings find a way in - and me idiot working hard to get the food into the house through the fence LOL

But have a look how the first house inspection was. The bird on top of the roof got special attention.

In German BTW the bird's name is: Graurückenbrillenvogel (= "grey back spectacles bird"). They only forgot to mention the reddish brown and the green parts of the bird... ;-)

Mimicking the stone bird.

At the moment the silvereyes are enjoying my grapes ;-) When I talk to them and tell them off, they chit-chat - and keep on eating... But could you chase away such cute little birds? Nooooo. But next year I will put a net over the grapvines... There are enough berries in the garden.

Howdy Sissi, Thank you kindly for visiting my Atlanta page, unfortunately the hubby didn't have enough time to see Margaret Mitchell quarters, but the Underground Atlanta has seen many Civil Rights movements.
