My First VT Meet

by Basaic - last update: Mar 31, 2009

Getting There is Half the Fun?

My New Ride
Attending my first VT Meet began with me taking a 205 mile drive from my home in Sierra Vista to Peoria. Of course it was a nice chance to give my new car some exercise, so it wasn't a chore.
Roxanne and I

The Aulde Dubliner Irish Pub

I wanted to make sure I wasn't late so I arrived in Phoenix well ahead of time. I was not sure where I was going (MAPQUEST failed me); but thanks to excellent directions by jumpingnorman, I drove right there. I decided to use the time I had wisely and visit the Aulde Dubliner Irish Pub. I had a few drinks and met lots of cute women. Not a bad way to kill time. All you VTers missed out though because I was buying and I didn't see any of you there.

Grimaldi's

Even after hanging out in the pub for awhile I was still the second one to arrive at Grimaldi's. Anthony (AVSENT) was there first. I was greeted at the door by the lovely Patrice who showed Anthony and I to our table. Our waitress, the also cute Amber, let me take her picture providing I did not put it on VT.

VT Meet

Not long after Anthony and I were seated our hostess Jo (Joiwatani) arrived followed by Norman (jumpingnorman) and his brother-in-law (Daytrippers) who had only been a member of VT for about 6 hours.

Jo handed out our loot; THANKS Stephanie!!, and we had some very edible pizza, exchanged lots of stories about travel experiences (good and bad), talked about VTers that were not there but were missed by their absence and just in general had a good time.

Later That Night

I definitely did not want to drive another 205 miles back after dinner so I went to the Motel 6 in the nearby suburb of Youngtown. The motel was kind of expensive since it was on the outskirts of Phoenix, and it was Saturday Night, and there were special events going on (in addition to the VT Meet). The motel was full of drunk college basketball fans including two college girls looking to earn some extra money on the side (I have said enough about that, except that one of them knocked on my door at about midnight looking for her top; sorry no photo).

The Desert Caballeros Western Museum

Wickenburg

I figured that since I had driven this far, why not continue a bit more Northwest, so I drove to Wickenburg on Sunday Morning. Wickenburg is a nice little town with a very nice museum. I will make an extensive Travel Page soon (although I am still trying to finish my December/January Trip).

Arizona Highway 89

From Wickenburg I drove up Arizona Highway 89 towards Prescott. Highway 89 has lots of mountainous curves and is very beautiful. I stopped at a few turnoffs to take pictures.

Yavapai County Court House

Prescott

I ended Sunday in the town of Prescott. There are several neat attractions in Prescott and if you are in the area, it is definitely worth a visit. I especially enjoyed the Sharlot Hall Museum, and the Yavapai Court House and its square is nice.
