| Page Views: 133 | Pebble Mosaic Pavements From Turkey by Arkeolog - last update: Mar 25, 2009 |
I like to find, see, search and photographing the pebble mosaic pavements. Luckily I can find many samples of this kind of mosaics. At the end of 19th century those pavements were very common in western and southern Turkey, Greece and Aegean islands. (I know there are many countries have this pavement tradition especially countries which are located around Mediterranean Sea) Mosques, churches, official buildings even regular houses could be decorated with pebble mosaics. I found pebble mosaics in Cesme, Cappadocia, Fethiye, Antalya, Izmir, Istanbul etc. In neighbour Greek island Rhodes, there is a mosque called Murat Reis, its garden decorated with a beautiful pebble mosaics. In Rhodes city center I found many pebble mosaics. Also Faliraki and Lindos have nice pebble mosaic pavements. In Panormitis-Symi, I visited a church and pavement looks nice. In Izmir-Alacati you can see the artistic pebble mosaics. Also Istanbul offers good pebble mosaics.
There are many destinations for pebble mosaic pavements in the world. Hopefully I can visit them. |

The entrance drive has cobbles with mosaics of anchors and snakes showing its original use as a naval hospital. Now it is a general hospital run by the Turkish medical system, called Beyoglu Hastanesi. It has s spectacular tower. |
