The Grand Bazaar - Capali Carsi | the colourful lamps on sale inside the bazaar |
First, how to get here:
If you're in Sultanahmet, you could either take a walk or take the tram.
WalkWalk along and up the main Divan Yolu cadessi where the tram is, you'll pass by several carpet and curio shops, McDonalds, Cemberlitas, and you'll see the Beyazid tram station, it's beside it. About 8 - 10 minutes walk from the Hagia Sophia or the Blue Mosque. |
| | inside the grand bazaar lots of curio, antiques and souvenirs |
...and even if you're not buying anything at all, juz go there and experience the ancient mall shopping
| | juz wander along the maze of passages and shops |
the salesmen can be very persistent, some will offer you tea, well, that's a part of either the turkish hospitality or the marketing, whichever, they are friendly anyways
| | spice bazaar this one is not inside the grand bazaar, it's the spice or egyptian bazaar, get ready for some pungent offensive spice smells.
good to visit too, get off at the eminonu station - 3rd tram stations away from sultanahmet station, walk underpass and emerge on the yeni cami plaza and beside it is the spice bazaar |
