My Second Love: Paris

by footstool - last update: May 31, 2009

VT Meeting in the 7th, February 2009

Pedmar, CesVT, Forestqueen56, footstool, and Joiwatani (Penelope4 arrived later) gather at the 7eme vin on avenue Bosquet, just steps away from Metro stop: Ecole Militaire. A splendid time is guaranteed for all!
Cobblestone canvas of pre-dawn Paris

rain-shiny George V towards Champs-Elysees, 5:30am

Noisy neighbors provided me with the opportunity to take a pre-dawn walk up avenue Bosquet, northbound to Pont D'alma, then continuing up George V to the Champs-Elysees. It was like an oil painting!
L'arch de Triomphe is always up

"Tom Waits" early a.m. peek at L'arch de Triomphe

at 5:30 a.m., early on a Saturday, it's wake-up time on the Champs Elysees. Just a block or 2 east of the Arch, on the north side of CE, the Queen disco was still pumping out the disco beat, and the exiting inebriates headed for the nearby Quick Restaurant, or Deli's Cafe (I'm not kidding), for burgers and fries to soak up their mai tais.

The sandwich of all sandwiches

A VT'er posted a question about the Patisserie du Sud Tunisien, on rue de la Harpe & rue San Severin, and Balthazar, on rue de la Harpe. Was it there? Balthazar, no; Patisserie, yes. The Patisserie, take-away only, makes, by hand, this softball-sized sandwich packed tighter than Tokyo subway car. It's dark "cat food" tuna, piece of boiled egg, 2 or 3 black olives WITH pits, diced carrot and onion, a hot green chili pepper (which I daintily removed), and a chunk of boiled potato! This hollowed out, deep-dish bun reminded me of the ones in which they serve chowder on Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco. But in Paris, you can get this here sandwich, with a bottle of water, for under 5 Euro. I ate my sandwich along the Seine, next door to a bookseller, while I waved to the tourists floating by.
Thanks to the VT'ers who tipped me off

Patisserie du Sud Tunissien

I didn't even have a chance to sample his baklava! When walking south, away from Conciergerie, and crossing the bridge onto blvd. san Michel, walk to the left (east) onto rue de la Harpe. You should be passing that large bookshop, with the yellow awning, on your right. Keep walking down rdlH until the next intersection. You'll see it on your left.
