| Buildings in Szczecin's Old Town (07.09) |
July 2009 - Another long weekend in Poland After Poznan in April, we spent another long weekend in Poland in July. This time Szczecin, the capital of the West Pomeranian Province was our destination, which we reached by train from Germany. During a VT meeting with VT member bijo69 (Birgit from Berlin) we explored the interesting city. We also took a daytrip to Swinoujscie at the Szczecin Lagoon. It is situated on both the islands of Wolin and Usedom. From here we walked along the beach to the German city of Ahlbeck. |

June 2009 - 7th AOK Companies run Like a few times in the previous years, I again took part in the so called "AOK Companies Run" which was held for the 7th time in Luedenscheid (D). It is a 5,5 km city run for employees of companies of a certain region. With more than 5.000 participants and numerous spectators along the route, the atmosphere was again stunning. May 2009 - 5th VT Euromeet in Cascais The highlight of May was of course the 5th VT Euromeet in Cascais (P), which was excellently organised by a2lopes and tere1. Again more than 120 members from more than 25 different countries attended this amazing event. Before the meeting I travelled 9 days through Portugal. On this trip I visited Guimaraes, Porto, Aveiro, Nazare, Peniche and finally Cascais and the surrounding region. |
| Cathedral in Gniezno (PL) |
April 2009 - Easter in Poznan In the middle of April we spent 5 days in Poznan (Poland) which is Poland's fifth largest city. We were quite lucky with the weather as we often had blue sky and therefore could take many brilliant photos. We even went on a short sidetrip to Gniezno. This city was Poland's first capital and is dominated by a large Gothic cathedral. |
| Market, square, Weimar (D) |
March 2009 - Exploring Thuringia, Eastern Germany At the end of March we explored a few cities in Thuringia, which is a federal state in Eastern Germany. Our journey started with an afternoon in Eisenach, followed by two nights in Weimar and a few hours in Apolda. Another two nights were spent in Thuringia's capital Erfurt, which was our last destination on this fabulous train trip. |
| Snow in front of Earls Court, London (UK) |
February 2009 - Snow in London Another business trip led me again to London. This time I chose to go by train from Cologne via Brussels to London St. Pancras International. By chance this was a very wise decision as it was the time when London was covered in snow for the first time in 14 years. Most of the public transport, especially flights came to a halt, but my Eurostar train was only 7 minutes delayed. Well done. |
January 2009 - My new toy: iPod nano One of the presents I got from Father Christmas was an iPod nano. In January I have started to become acquanited with it and I must admit that I really love it. As I am more a technical person and a German at the same time, I was of course more than keen on finding out all about its fabulous features. So thanks a lot to Father Christmas. |
