"Trying to cheer myself up" Personal Page by doodybee

This is just an excuse for looking back at my photos and trying to cheer myself up a bit -
I am actually skiving for 10mins also - truth be told -
I am getting heartily sick of the cold weather here - the place i work in isn't much warmer than outside as the guys here were all born in a field -( they have no clue how to shut doors behind them)
This picture shows me on the balcony outside our room at Marianna Palace, Kolymbia which is my very favorite place in Rhodes - this hotel was the second i had stayed in there and was off the beaten track a little but was very much value for money. We booked an independant flight and the hotel was booked through hotels4U ( something like that ) we arranged a transfer through them too as i knew a taxi would be more expensive for a return journey - we found there was a mix of nationalities in the hotel -but once again the ones doing the most griping( moaning) were Brits - The usual "no burgers- no chips - bar not open long enough etc etc - silly buggers - IMHO anyway
The hotel was spotlessly clean throughout the food was well cooked although somewhat repetitive and the AI element was Breakfast- lunch- dinner and a few snacks on the bar and all you could drink bewtween breakfast and 11-30pm - long enough for most people i think and this is typicalof what we experienced in other AI places on Rhodes too . The one SLIGHT criticism i would make was that the staff seemed a bit miserable and barely smiled at let alone interacted with the guests - which i found totally bemusing ( This was my fourth trip out to rhodes and this was the first time i had come across so many staff who were miserable in the same place) other tahn that no worries

This was taken about 10 metres off the coastline in Kolymbia - we were on a Pedalo ( yes i braved it) and i just had to get a piccie of the sea in true colour - nothing can explain the colour of the med or aegean sea to the english ( who are used to the filthy North & Irish Seas surrounding the UK) until you see it for yourself

This is the fabled Street of Knights which leads from the entrance to the Old Town up to the Grand Masters Palace

We always end up in the Old Town and we were surprised to see ithe Street so empty - We love this place and spend ages in there and we still have only seen about 10% of the "Old Town" area - something to go back for - to see more

This place was my first experience of Greece and we arrived as strangers and left 2 weeks later feeling very much like a part of the family - ( might have had something to do with the fact that the manager fell in love with my daughter Sam - she on the other hand fell for the barman up the road at a bar called Heaven - "young love" - bless

When we went back two years later -the manager remebered us and asked were Sam was - we had left her back in England much to his dismay -

I still check out the reviews from this place and find most people are like me and loved it - which is nice - but i get the impression it has changed hands these days -
