This kite is not for play. . . . Usually we see the red kite (Milvus milvus, Milan royal, roter Milan) in flight, and when he has a rest, he does not like human get close; I was lucky to be at less than 50 metres from this one. I love looking at birds of prey, when they glide without any effort, just finding the ascending air currents, and just changing inclination of their wings and tail to change speed or direction; looks so easy. . . . Pyrenees |
| | .. Is this buzzard (Buteo buteo, buse variable, Mäusebussard) not beautiful? He just glides having a look if there is food down there, just in case; Monts du Forez. |
.. Over the mountains, over the clouds, I meet that sort of birds when I walk high in the Pyrenees: the alpine chough (Pyrrhocorax graculus, chocard à bec jaune, Alpendohle) flies incredibly fast up and down along the cliffs or over the passes, with help of the wind. Little brain, but why not be a bird and live above the mountains? .. . . .
| | .. During a morning biking tour in the Bois de Vincennes, a small forest east of Paris, I stopped with difficulty on the snow to admire this pheasant (Phasianus colchicus, faisan de Colchide, Jagdfasan); a sight like this and watching him taking off few seconds later was one of the rewards of the tour that morning. |
.. A very common Parisian bird is the crow (Corvus corone, Corneille , Rabe) you best can see in cemeteries; I guess they do not feed in the cemeteries (well, their full name is carrion crow. . . !) but there are a lot in the Père Lachaise cemetery, and they care for the atmosphere of the cemetery; after all, it is a cemetery before being a tourist spot!
| | Hey! It is spring! The little robin (Eritacus rubecula, rougegorge, Rotkehlchen) sings frenetically to tell it, to tell he has found a place for a nest, still wants to chat up a nice female. . . well, just spring in a Parisian garden (Buttes Chaumont) |
.. Ah, this one here is the typical Parisian. . . The sparrow is very common, but also very familiar sometimes and why not begging for some crumbs, or was this one thirsty and asking for a drop of beer? Just a Parisian bird. . . . . If you want to see some more feathered animals, there is a Gondwanan birds travelogue.
| | Night birds So, these were some birds I was lucky to photograph during some trips, not far from home, or on other continents. Ah, I sometimes happen to see owls, nightjars, and other night birds, but the only ones I was able to photograph were special night birds I met in Vietnam. . . . . Some have called me “birdwatcher” when they discovered what sort of night birds I photographed in Vung Tau, so this travelogue has been posted to confirm: I am not a bird watcher, I only photograph birds, day or night, more or less by chance, nothing more. . . . :)))) |
