MEETING GOUTAM & FAMILY-KOLKATA 2008/9

by lynnehamman - last update: Jan 28, 2009

Meeting Goutam (goutammitra on VT), Rakhi & Munu in Kolkata has left us with some wonderful memories of Kolkata- and of them. A warm, hospitable family, they made us feel so welcome. They took us to see places that we would never had thought of going to, took us to a wonderful restuarant for a sumptious meal, and welcomed us into their home.
As if that was not enough- they gave me wonderful presents, and I felt thoroughly spoilt.
They have a lovely home- (millions of steps to climb!) and Rakhi was kind enough to give me medication for a bruised hip that I suffered due to a fall on a wet bathroom floor. Thank you, Rakhi.
Munu is the sweetest girl- I hope that she keeps her promise to come and visit us in Sydney. We will surely spoil her silly. We may even keep her here! I miss her little smile. And so intelligent- she had answers for everything. She is going to make a huge success of her life
.
BEAUTIFUL MOTHER & DAUGHTER

The Hooghly River Boat Trip

This was so relaxing- we all enjoyed the day. We went to many different places- and Rakhi took me shopping at a huge shopping mall after.
I wanted a henna tattoo- and Rakhi took me some place to get one. The tattoo cameout fine- but there was a HUGE argument between Rakhi & the henna artist after- ( how I wished i could understand Bengali!!!) She is a feisty little lady- and was giving him hell because he tried to overcharge me. Every time that I look down at my leg I have to smile- I would NOT like to be on the recieving end of Rakhi's temper!!! She won the argument
.
Goutam is a great friend , and has been a great help in every way. I left behind a shirt at the hotel we were staying at in Kolkata, and he has kindly retrieved it for me, and posted it onto Sydney. Thanks Goutam. You have also been an inspiration for me on VT, and have given me much help and encouragment, when I struggled in the early days.He was one of my first VT friends

At Home with Goutam's family
I hope that one day I can return the hospitality & warmth that they gave us in Kolkata. Richard shares my feelings. It is a great help knowing someone in a foreign city- and through VT I have made some wonderful friends. We came as tourist- and left as friends.

WE ARE WAITING FOR YOU MUNU

Munu is as feisty as her mother- I know that she has made up her mind to come stay with us for a visit, and she will come. I have no doubt about that. We will so enjoy showing her around our city. She loves animals, and here are plenty of strange ones for her to see in Australia. Munu wants to fly Jets (F14?) - and she has a great love of books. I would love to see her wearing a sari- but a got a firm refusal on that one!!
Munu- Sweet Child of light
