Schafbergbahn is a narrow-gauge railway taking you from St. Wolfgang im Salzkammergut to Schafberg, a mountain withn an excellent panorama-view. Thetrains of 1873 are still in service and it might be a good idea to be there in time to get a nice seat at the window and to have a look for the technical side of the trains, before you take your seat.

Rheingold - a special Pullmann-train in WW II

This very special Pullmann-train was constructed for Hitler's Foreign Minister Joachim von Rippentrop, who wanted to have a really comfortable carriage, when travelling through Germany. This Pullmann costed 390.000 Reichsmark, (at a time, when a small house and garden was just 20.000 RM). The Rheingold-carriage had bullet-proof windows, several sleeping-rooms, a conference-saloon , a bath etc.
After the war it was first used by the US-High Comissioner for Germany, later by the German chancellor Willy Brandt.
You may not step inside the Rheingold, but take a look through the windows ! It looks really interesting and also a bit outfashioned !

Read more about it in my Speyer-page
Steyrtalbahn is Austria's oldest trainline in the narrow-gauge track of 760 mm. The track of the museum-train from Steyr Lokalbahnhof to Gruenburg and Steinbach an der Steyr is 17 km long and all of the btrains are still powered by steam.

This old steam-train of the 19th century is called "Priener Bockerl" and it will still take you from the trainstation of Prien to the ships that will go for Herrenchiemsee castle.
That ride is just 3 Km, but of course it is great fun to take such a lovely steam-train.They provide a 1st class with great sofas and a 2nd class for ordinary people :-)

Hi Michael, thanks for your many ratings and nice comment on my updated Berlin page. Berlin keeps changing all the time, so I find new things (and old things I hadn't noticed before) on every visit.
