Wee the Traveling Cat

by bdougherty - last update: Dec 21, 2008

Wee was a wandering stray when I first met her in 1999. She seemed like a friendly enough little creature and somehow kept finding her way up to my balcony. She had found her new home but that didn't become official until the morning of my birthday when, feeling a little more compassionate than usual, I decided to feed her a can of tuna and allow her to stay indoors until a more suitable ome could be found.
Over nine years later and we are still looking for a more suitable home - not really - she is now the center of the family and a little bit of a cult figure among our friends and family. She is truly a house cat but enjoys the comfort of her continually upgraded back yard. She has a 16 sq. ft. litterbox out back and all the birds she can stand.
Her stepping stones were added so she could more easily access the shrubs and garden. Her diet - as the picture does not readily indicate - consists of a great deal of greens to go along with her chips, pizza, and other snack foods she has found to be to her liking.
But life is nothing without adventure for a wordly cat and Wee makes the most of her opportunities to roam. She has had some wonderful excursions into places like Yellowstone Park and Heliopolis, Egypt. She has had some less than pleasurable forrays into a few airports - she had an emotional meltdown in Frankfurt, Germany and a disastrous landing at JFK where she emptied herself from both ends in a matter of minutes following a shaky landing.
But home is where her heart is, along with her ever expanding waistline and wardrobe. She appreciates a long, afternoon nap in the sun room as well as dinner in the den in front of a good movie.
Sometimes it just feels good to pretend the "cruel, cruel world" isn't really out there and simply hunker down for a little alone time. And what better locale for that than inside a trunk filled with soft, cuddly blankets. Her hiding spots are always moving as she plays a little "cat and mouse " with her parents (usually at the worst possible times!)
But all in all, Wee is Wee and that's all she strives to be. She has big plans for the months to come but right now she could stand a small snack before she turns in for the evening.

I love your story about Wee! That's awesome that she travels with you. So far our kitties have gone on a three-day road trip which they were none too happy with :)
