Regarding the FEVE railway line through La Felguera, this is what all the fuss is about. The level crossing at the north end of the main street. In fact, there are two roads parallel to the railway, one on either side of it, and they are far more dangerous to cross than is the single track, used by one train each way each hour (two per hour, in other words). There are plans to boost service frequency, but would it not be more sensible then to incorporate the railway in the urban landscape as a surface tramway, Karlsruhe-style?

You will see this one to best advantage on an LCD. Here the railway squeezes between the Duro-Felguera administrative buildings (see Page 10 of my Pola de Laviana Travelogues) and some old houses. Note the advertisement on the wall, for a local restaurant.

More delightful town houses on the main street. Let's hope they survive and the property developers keep their greedy hands off them!

Another view of the main street. The four-wheeled infernal combustion engine needs eradicating from the scene, but to give the town council its due, there are a number of very pleasant pedestrianised streets nearby.
