"1970's MACV Swimming pool - April, 2008 - Deja Vu" Ho Chi Minh City Travelogue by bpwarne

This is the MACV (Military Assistance Command, Vietnam) swimming pool which has survived all these years. This is the same pool I use to swim in on the MACV compound in 1970 -71 while stationed in Saigon. While it is still in operation, it is not open to the general public. It is located on part of Vietnam Airlines training facilitiy and used by their personnel, I have been told by some Vietnam airline pilots that it is used for 'ditch at sea' drilling. . A couple of guys there allowed me up top to photogragh it once they finally understood my interest in it.

Enlisted personnel working in Systems Control (Syscon), 1st Signal Brigade, Regional Communications Group HQ were billeted on MACV Annex just a hundred yards or so from the pool and tennis courts during late 1970 -1971.

If you can locate this jet, you are next to the swimming pool. This jet is visible on GoogleEarth and if you can locate it, the MACV swimming pool, while not discernable, is just to the right of it, maybe 20 yards away. I was told this jet is used as a private restaurant by Vietnam Airlines and was not allowed within the gates to verify this. however, I have since been told it is a public restaurant. Perhaps one day when it is open I will check it out further.

One of the few buildings in the neighborhood which appears to be MACV era vintage. Near the swimming pool
