Great Brook Farm State Park is only about 15 minutes from where I live, so I go there a lot to hike and relax. There are over 20 miles of hiking and mountain biking trails. You can also ride a horse, or launch a canoe in the pond. In the winter the Park's Ski Touring Center is open--where you can rent cross country skis and snowshoes. In the 19th Century the entire park was a farm. Today most of the land has been reclaimed by forest, while some of it is still used to grow corn to feel the Park's dairy cows. The cows are part of the Park's "Interpretive Dairy". From May - October you can visit the dairy and get a tour of the barn. They also make some excellent ice cream here from the cows' milk. Yumm. Visiting the park is free, but it costs $2 for parking. If you want to learn more about the park, visit their Web site: http://www.mass.gov/dcr/parks/northeast/gbfm.htm |

Kaspian Thu Nov 12, 2009 13:18 UTC I'm in Heathrow right now, spent the night in London. On my way to Copenhagen until Sunday. | travelfrosch Thu Nov 12, 2009 00:29 UTC Thanks, Em! Sara just got back from a shower where our little one got many Red Sox outfits, but Sara had to endure lots of jabs from her Yankee fan relatives. Oh well -- how 'bout them Knicks? GO CELTICS! ;) | Pawtuxet Tue Nov 10, 2009 21:49 UTC Thanks for visiting New Bedford. Each time I go, I think I should have spent more time there. I'll be back there again, no doubt. | Dabs Tue Nov 3, 2009 22:56 UTC Oh no, not the swine flu! Sending good health wishes your way Em :-) |
