This was my attempt!
It was a 3 layer- chocolate, plain sponge and chocolate butter icing job.
All my own work, except for help cutting out the templates- which proved hilarious:-)

A few amendments had to be made- after I discovered we'd lost Sweden and Norway!
My pal and I had great fun, cutting out the templates. We'd shout out to each other-"I've lost Java!"..."Where's Borneo gone?"..."What's this bit.....New Zealand?"..."Oh-we've forgotten Madagascar!"

I think it went down well on the day.
After much secret plotting and hiding it in the hotel kitchen, it was revealed, after our evening meal, with candles lit and lights switched off.

Switching the lights off was the suggestion of the hotel proprietress.She said..."We do things properly in Italy!"

Others have photos of it lit---as I was holding it with the help of the Italian waiter, who provided the knife, to cut it all up.
They all swooped with their flashes--just like papparazzi!

He did a fine job and I presented each person with a wrapped piece to take away from the party- sorry- folks- no balloons!
I gather, many people had a midnight feast:-)
