Italy

Lauren's Life in Italy

Posing on the streets of Venice
We lived in Northern Italy, about a half hour from Aviano Airforce Base. We lived out in the countryside in a duplex, surrounded by farms. My brother and I, (I lived in Italy from ages 10-13, the longest I have lived anywhere) went to an American school in the center of Aviano where all the military brats went.

We lived very close to Venice and so visited it often. In the four years we lived there, we visited many locations in Italy, including Pompeii and Verona, two others of my favorite. Piza is also among the more famous cities we traveled to.

I miss Italy very dearly because I lived there as long as I did (in relation to everywhere else I have lived) and I hope to return to it next year.

(I apologize for the quality of photos- We dont have a scanner)
Colliseum

Villanova De Prada

We lived in Villanova de Prada, surrounded by farmers. We lived there during the Kosovo war, when Americans were even more unpopular than usual amongst Italians.

I have met some very nice Italians, but just like anywhere else you will find some very rude people; many of our neighbors included.

More to Come

Sorry about the few photos- I have some in an album tucked away somewhere, and once I find them I will be more than happy to upload them and share more information about Italy!*
Pompeii-- a must see

Carnivale time!

*Gondalas and Carnevale*

Gondalas are expensive! I think at least one trip on one is necessary for the full Italian experience however- nothing can beat sailing along wide and narrow waterways, admiring the architecture of the buildings and overhanging bridges.

If you can, go during carnevale! It is a very funny festival. We went a couple of times, and it is great! Everyone dresses up in masks and costumes. If you go, you should make your own costume! (They are not random like halloween costumes btw, lol.) If you get a nice costume, everyone will want to get their picture taken with you!
